Counters, part 1

The guys are still working on installing the counters, but I couldn't wait to post pictures. They're so gorgeous!

Two of the counter slabs sitting in place.

The same piece, before and after lemon oil. The oil makes all the difference in the color of the stone and the enhancement of the natural veining.

They do look pretty darn awesome. One note for anybody doing a similar job (undermount apron sink): The guy who came to do the templating for the countertops told us we needed to have the sink installed and sealed in place (set into silicone caulk on the supports) before the stone was installed. So, we did that, attempting to shim it up very close to the level of the countertops without going over.
Upon arrival of the guys doing the install job, however, we discovered that they actually prefer to have it in place, but not sealed in, so that they can shim it up to the level of the stone. As it was, there was probably an eighth inch gap all the way around, which is now caulked. It's fine, but it would have been nice to have it shimmed up to the stone.

Anyhow, I have to give serious kudos to Scand for tracking down this beautiful slab for such a good deal.

I accept kudos in the form of cash, personal check, and chocolate. "Serious" kudos can come in the form of serious cash, personal checks for seriously large amounts, and/or seriously good chocolate (no Hershey's!).
